Wind Turbine goes up!

Wed 06 June 2007

Jefcoate Anderson Architects Ltd has been helping Wellfield High School with fund raising and design for a new environmental education centre.

A real landmark in the progress of this project is the completion of the installation of a new 6,5kW wind turbine which will produce free electricity for the school. This electricity will be used during the day by the new facilities in the old ROSLA building and surplus energy sold back to the national grid at night.

We are about to start work on the fit out of the building which will include an environmental awareness centre, Internet Cafe, Media and video editing facilities as well as business meeting rooms and presentation suites. The building will be used by the school, local businesses and the local community.

A roof mounted photovoltaic panel array will be installed at a later stage and the school will soon be changing its heating system from the existing inefficient coal fired boilers, to a new carbon neutral boiler which burns wood chips, a waste bi-product from the local forestry works.
