In autumn 2010 Jefcoate Anderson were appointed as architects for an extension to a traditional single storey cottage. Our outline brief was to form an additional bedroom, living and kitchen area and mezzanine study/snug.
The new extension is linked to the existing cottage by a double height hall and glazed loggia. The double height entrance hall is expressed externally with full height glazing.
Internally the stone work of the existing stone gable will be cleaned up and re-pointed to become be a key feature within the entrance hall. A feature stair provides access to the upper mezzanine level lit from above and overlooking the hall and living room below.
Our client was keen to adopt materials typical of the rural and agricultural vernacular with low maintenance, sustainability and longevity also being key factors.
Stone reclaimed from demolitions will be utilised in certain feature elements such as the curved entrance wall and chimney.
This project is currently on hold but we hope to see it on site soon.
