In 2007 Jefcoate Anderson Architects were appointed by Lauriston Medical Practice to undertake the detailed design for a new medical centre.
Sir Norman Foster’ Quatermile development, on the site of the old Edinburgh Royal Infirmary, had resulted in a significant increase in patient numbers requiring medical facilities within the locale of the existing Lauriston medical practice.
Housed in a converted townhouse the physical constraints of the existing building limited expansion of the practice to cater for the increase in patient numbers.
A new premises was identified directly across the Meadows from the Quatermile development. The building, the highly recognisable listed frontage of which is a local landmark, had most recently served as a yoga centre.
Working closely with our client, specialist consultants, and NHS Lothian, the building has been converted to provide the following medical facilities;
GP consulting rooms
Dental treatment rooms
Dental sterilisation facilities
Nurses facilities
Counselling rooms
Group activity room
Practice Manager’s office
Staff room and kitchen
