Jefcoate Anderson Architects were asked by a Lancashire School to investigate an alternative use for a partially derelict ROSLA block. Scheduled for demolition by the local council, this two storey building had recently been reclad externally and the deputy headmaster was keen to see if a more environmentally responsible solution could be found for its use.
Following a period of three years of fundraising and feasilbility studies, the end result is a fully refurbished teaching facility whcih also contains business facilities which can be let out by the school.
A 6.5kW grid connected Proven wind turbine provides free energy and was partially funded by a Scottish Power green energy grant.
The first floor also contains an environmental education centre which is open for community and inter-school use.
