Swanston Golf Club House, Swanston Village, Edinburgh

Located in the magnificent rural of Swanston Conservation Area, on the outskirts of Edinburgh, this replacement golf clubhouse caters for both golfers and members of the public, providing facilities for members as well as restaurant/bar, function suite and office space for club administration. There is also on site staff accommodation.

The design of the scheme is orientated around its spectacular site and the extensive views.

The materials used echo these of the adjacent traditional buildings and reflect the surrounding rural environment. The external palette consists of natural coursed stone, smooth render, western red cedar cladding, natural slate, timber windows and doors.

The natural stone is used primarily in the dominant elevations to the north and west, wrapping around the building and firmly rooting it into the hillside. The stone gives the building a desired weight and strength, merging with the surrounding landscape creating a building with a sensitive yet distinctive character.

Construction was completed late Autumn 2007.
